Back on track

The last few weeks have been crazy.  I am in the final week of classes for this term, finally!  It has ben hard to stay motivated with these classes.  Intro to Mass Media and Seminar in American Literature have both dragged these last few weeks.  Maybe it is because I didn’t find the books and short stories very entertaining.  Maybe it was just the sheer amount of writing involved.  I am still working on my final paper and PowerPoint presentation for the classes.  Next up is Introduction to Film History and  The English Language (a linguistics class).  I am already finding these two classes very interesting and I am looking forward to the next 8 weeks.  Bonus points for the Intro to Film History class as I can use a Doctor Who film for my final project!  I am thinking The Day of the Doctor.  It is hard to believe that I will be done with my BA in 8 short months!

Adding to the stress of school is my home life.  My wife is in her final year of law school.  She has her finals next month and then the bar in February.  It has been hard on our son, having both parents in school.  He just started back to nursey school yesterday.  I had forgotten how nice it was to have a few hours to myself everyday.

Add to that we have a new addition in the home.  Duncan, full name and title is Prince Duncan Belvedere Shoemaker, came to us a couple of months back.

He is a pure bred English Bulldog who never wants to leave my feet.  As I am writing this he is snoring on the floor with my feet under him.  I have already lost a pair of shoes and slippers to this little biting monster, but he makes my son happy and that is what is important.

The final project that has occupied my time these last few weeks is the new business that my wife and I are starting.  Writing is my passion, but I also need to support my family while I am writing.  As most of you know I have been fighting lymphoma.  One of the things that has helped me to keep a decent quality of life during chemotherapy is cannabis.  It eases my pain, nauseas, and deals with other symptoms from my PTSD.  I would not be here without it.  A year ago my wife and I began the process to open a medical cannabis delivery service her in California.  It is something that I truly believe in and I want to help people get the medicine that they need.  We have put a lot of hard work into this venture and we will be opening in the next month.

With all of that going on I have had to hit the reset button and get back on track with my writing.  It has had to take a back seat for the last few weeks, but I am now back on track.  Thanks for sticking around!

  1. I’m glad you’re in a place where you can get the cannabis you need to help with your disease. Do what you need to do to get through – we aren’t going anywhere.
    Much healing light your way!

    1. Thanks Liz. I am lucky that I live in a place where cannabis is legal. Far too many people who would benefit from this medicine have no access to it. Especially veterans, who I plan on catering too.

  2. Sounds like things are moving forward nicely. I’m glad you’ve got solutions that work for you. Let them work. As Liz says, we’re not going anywhere. 🙂 That’s an adorable little pooch.

  3. Duncan is adorable! He looks like a little meatball 😁💕

Sounds like you’ve had a lot on your plate, so don’t forget to take care of yourself ✌ (PS. I don’t usually see your new posts on my WordPress feed. What days/time do you usually post?)

    Take care,

    1. Usually I post on Tues at 2 pm pacific time. I am thinking of moving the posts to Friday or Saturday to get more exposure. As for taking care of myself, my wife kicks me out of the house occasionally to have a day to myself. 😊Usually I end up at the movies.
